Minister of Higher and Technical Education in Maharashtra, Uday Samant, took to Twitter on Thursday to share that the final decision about university examinations in the state will be announced on Friday, May 8, 2020, at 1:00 PM.

Recently, an expert committee met to understand the scenario amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The team discussed the potential possibilities of conducting University examinations, state-level CET examinations, plan for the pending activities for this year and decide on the academic year 2020-21.

Sharing the news, he wrote, “A committee of vice-chancellors presented their report to the government today. The same was discussed with chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and the examination dates for higher and technical education will be declared on Friday at 1 pm.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) recently released guidelines regarding the pending examinations and admission process for the new academic year. Looking at the nation-wide scenario, the guidelines suggested universities to plan for online coaching and improve the existing infrastructure thereby ensuring that the classes are not missed. Further, there were directives suggested for MPhil and PhD students too.

The report on the UGC website mentioned that the admission process for the new academic year can be held in August 2020, and the classes for students moving to second and third year can begin from August 1, 2020. Classes for the first-year students (fresh batch) can commence from September 1, 2020.

However, the authorities stated that these dates were just a suggestion, and state government can take decisions based on the current scenario of coronavirus outbreak.

Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray also took to Twitter to share this news, and said, "To all the university students from Maharashtra worried and tweeting/ texting me on their exams/ academic year, I’d suggest not to worry. Minister @meudaysamant ji has been consulting all VCs and will be declaring a road map for all such students across Maharashtra in max 2 days. The road map will be fair and just to all students studying in universities across Maharashtra. I would suggest to drop your worries on this and stay safe and indoors. We are here for you all!"
