According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city of Mumbai can expect relief from the hot weather conditions this weekend.

Moreover, IMD has issued a yellow alert for Saturday and Sunday adding that heavy downpour can be expected at isolated places in Thane and Mumbai whereas, for Raigad, there has been an orange alert issued for Sunday indicating heavy to very heavy rains likely at isolated places. In addition, the meteorological body informed that this prediction is a result of a low-pressure that is likely to form over west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal around Sunday.

The Southwest monsoon, which spans for over four months from June to September, has been on an extended break phase in Maharashtra, like other regions in the south, west and central India since June 20.

However, the IMD has predicted that one or two spells of light-to-moderate rain are likely in Mumbai city and suburbs. According to the regional forecast, the Konkan region is expected to receive scattered rainfall starting Monday, which will improve as the week progresses.

Moreover, above-average rainfall in Maharashtra can be expected this year. The state had received good rainfall last year as well. Vidarbha, Marathwada, South Konkan and Western Maharashtra are expected to receive 35 to 55 per cent above average rainfall. The rest of the state is expected to receive the same amount of rainfall on average.
