Kaun Banega Crorepati is one of the most engaging television show which is viewed by lakhs of Indians every day. The show is famous for its knowledge-rich content and it is hosted by legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachcha. Tthe show enjoys a hefty viewership. However, recently the show made it to the headlines for the wrong reasons.
In the Wednesday episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 11, Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as only ‘Shivaji’, triggering numerous Twitter users who went on to trend #Boycott_KBC_SonyTv on Friday.
Maharashtra BJP MLA Nitesh Rane also demanded an apology from the entertainment giant for “disrespectful” reference to Shivaji Maharaj. Rane said,

Looking at the gravity of the situation Sony TV issued an apology for referring to Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as only ‘Shivaji’ on the Wednesday episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 11,

The controversy surfaced after a question was asked on the quiz show about the contemporaries of Aurangazeb, a Mughal emperor who ruled major parts of India in the 17th century. Among the four options, Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was mentioned as “Shivaji”, whereas the other options were mentioned as Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga and Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
