In a recent decision, the Thane Municipal Corporation appealed to the citizens to adopt online system to avoid no crowding during Ganpati Visarjan. One can book the slots from Friday, August 14, 2020.

The celebrations for Ganeshotsav 2020 have changed due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the lockdown. Amidst the crisis, the state government has asked the respective authorities to not celebrate the festival in a grand manner, and guidelines have been issued for visarjan as well.

As per recent reports, the Thane Municipal corporation, for the first time, have asked the citizens to book slots Ganpati Visarjan. One can book the immersion time slot on the website. The decision was taken to ensure that there is no crowding during the visarjan, as it could help contain the spread of the virus.

Observing the increase in cases, the local municipaity has appealed to the citizens to adopt an online system for safety and precaution, and this facility will be made available for Thanekars from Friday, August 14, 2020.

In order to book a slow, one has to check the dashboard link of the corporation and select the option Ganesh Visarjan Booking, following which a list of artificial lakes or idol acceptance centres in your ward will be displayed, which can be selected along with the time slot, for Bappa's visarjan.

Besides this, CM Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government has also issued some guidelines to ensure a low-key celebration this year. After meeting the concerned mandals and associations in the city, CM Thackeray issued rules and guidelines stating that the height of the Ganpati idol this year cannot be more than 4 feet. Further, online darshan has been made available by several mandals in MMR. The rules laid also show the number of people who can be present at the mandal and at visarjan. Keeping this in mind, the commissioner has appealed the citizens and associations to abide by it. As per reports, artificial lakes will be constructed at 13 places and visarjan centres will be available at 20 places this year.

As of August 13, 2020, Thane district had a total of 109,703 cases out of which 19589 are active. A total of 86,923 patients have been discharged after COVID-19 treatment and 3,190 have passed away due to the infection. Maharashtra has a total of 560,126 coronavirus cases.
