On a daily basis, approximately 3,000 children continue to die from starvation in India and Mumbai's condition is no different. Hence, the Roti banks have come forward and appealed to the Mandals in South Bombay to extend a helping hand towards the people ostracised from hunger."
And so, if the mandals intend to change the situation, then all they have to do is to provide the offerings to mandals to them instead of wasting them.
Every day, the amount of food being wasted by people is alarming. In a country of 700 crore people, more than 11 per cent of the entire population suffers from starvation which means that around 79.50 crore people are devoid of food. The number of people suffering from starvation is equivalent to the combined population of the United States of America, Indonesia, and Brazil!
Every year, devotees from Maharashtra along with Mumbai await Ganesh Chaturthi. Thousands of devotees flock various Ganpati Mandals to seek blessings of Lord Ganesha. Along with this, people also offer ‘modaks’ and fruits to Ganpati as a symbol of their faith.
However, on several occasions, these fruits are seen to be wasted and so, ‘Roti Bank’ from Mumbai have appealed to the Ganpati Mandals across Mumbai to not waste fruits.
Roti Bank plans to distribute the fruits to the people in need. Thus, they have asked the Mandals to give the offerings to the bank, who will distribute it further ahead.
