Mumbai Knights FC made a dream start to their Indian Women's League (IWL), 2023, campaign as they beat Kahaani FC by 1-0 to earn all three points.

Nonetheless with three points in the bag, Mumbai Knights FC made a bright start to their group stage campaign being amongst the four sides to win their first match.

Heavyweights and defending Champions Gokulam Kerala FC, Sports Odisha, Misaka United FC and Mumbai Knights FC all won their opening matches.

As far as Mumbai Knights are concerned, their fullbacks Mansi and Pranita were absolutely unplayable as both did well going forward and at the back in defense as well. Mansi was judged the player of the match.

Priyanka’s first half strike was enough for the win. Although the scoreline looks 1-0, Mumbai Knights FC could have easily won 2-0/3-0 had they taken their chances and if Priyanka’s second wasn’t ruled out.

Mumbai Knights FC had a rock solid midfield of Sushmita and Valencia with Karen Pias doing extremely well to transition from defense to attack linking up well with Priyanka and Karishma. Ritu Rani played a key part is assisting Priyanka’s goal and could have got a second assist as well had the goal not been ruled out.

Kashmira looked rock solid in goal and although had to do very little but was very alert with whatever came her way. Afreen and Srutilakshmi were instrumental in keeping the Kahaani FC attack at bay and will be looking to replicate the same in the second match.

Mata Rukmani FC lost their opening match to Misaka United FC by 2-0. They will be facing Mumbai FC tomorrow, April 29, at 8.30 am at the Shahibaug Police Ground.

Mumbai Knights FC are Womens League champions of Mumbai and Maharashtra, having won the latest season of MFA Womens Elite Division and WIFA Womens League. Mumbai Knights FC will be representing the Maharashtra at the Indian Women's League.
