A young midfielder made his debut during the 2018/19 Indian Super League (ISL) season for Mumbai City FC. The young, and energetic 23-year-old became one of the most crucial aspects for the Islanders attacking unit and has also led the MCFC mid-field since the last season.

Born on February 19, 1996, Raynier Fernandes, an Indian footballer made his ISL debut in 2018, after being signed by Mumbai City FC as a midfielder. Born and brought up in Mumbai, Fernandes has always been like the city, never-stopping and has proven to be a talented and energetic player on-field through his courageous and determined displays for the side.

His never-give-up attitude came forward when Mumbai City FC was playing their first home game at the Mumbai Football Arena against a formidable Odisha side who had outplayed the Islanders in both the halves.

The visitors impressed with their aggressive approach in the first half and were three goals up at the end of it. While all hopes of a comeback were gone for the hosts, the young midfielder kept putting himself ahead and tried to create chances. Despite Mumbai losing the match, the match brought forward a dependable player who could in the near future lead the team.

Born in Maharashtra, Fernandes began his career with Air India. He stayed with the club, playing in the MDFA Elite Division, until 2016. He also represented Maharashtra in the Santosh Trophy in 2016.

But his big break came in August 2016, when it was announced that Fernandes was signed by Mohun Bagan of the I-League. Five days after his signing, the young Mumbaikar made his I-League debut for Mohun Bagan against George Telegraph in their Calcutta Football League opener.

Fernandes now eyes for his as well as the club's maiden ISL title win. Keeping in mind that the Islanders had made it to the semi-finals last year, one can hope that they might go on to win the prestigious football league this season owing to valiant efforts from Reynier Fernandes.
