Thane: 109 Foreign Passengers From 'At-Risk' Nations Untraceable

Maharashtra's first case was reported in the KDMC limits. The Maharashtra Health Department stated that a 33-year-old unvaccinated man who had returned to Kalyan-Dombivali from South Africa, tested positive for the Omicron variant last month.

In a major concern, 109 foreign returnees, out of 295, went untraceable in Thane district, said authorities. Meanwhile, Maharashtra's first case was reported in the KDMC limits.

Moreover, with two more close contacts of a Nigeria returnee found positive for infection, the twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli now have six international travellers and four of their close contacts positive.

According to the information given by Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi, the mobile phones of some of these people were switched off while many of the last given addresses were found to be locked.

He also said that a seven-day home quarantine and a test to detect the infection on the eighth day have been made mandatory for returnees to KDMC limits from all ‘at-risk’ nations.

Even if the passengers have tested negative on arrival, they will have to undergo another seven-day home quarantine and it would be the duty of housing society members to ensure the norm is not violated. Moreover, Marriages, gatherings etc., are being watched to curb violations.

Amid a rise in the Omicron cases, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune guardian minister Ajit Pawar said that the Centre should adopt a strict approach towards international passengers coming into various states.
