The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday, April 26, announced that 31 journalists were discharged after their second COVID-19 test report came negative. Following their recovery, all of them have been advised to undergo 14-day home quarantine. The 31 media personnel were among the 53 journalists that tested positive in Mumbai last week after 171 media persons were tested as part of a special camp.

Journalists and reporters have been on the field to cover news regarding COVID-19 pandemic despite the risk of contracting the virus. After the 53 journalists in Mumbai tested positive, the other media persons in the fraternity demanded free testing of journalists working on the field. Rajasthan and Assam have already announced that they will test reporters for coronavirus.

Just like the Journalists, people working on the frontline, including police officers and medical workers, are at a greater risk of being infected by the virus. Close to 96 policemen and policewomen in Mumbai have tested positive for COVID-19 so far. Out of these, 81 are constables and the remaining 15 are officers. As per official figures, seven Mumbai Police personnel who had tested positive for Coronavirus, have recovered until now.

Over the weekend, two police constables passed away while undergoing treatment for COVID-19. 57-year-old Mumbai Police constable, Chandrakant Pendurkar passed away on Saturday and Head Constable Sandip Surve, aged 52 passed away on Sunday.
