Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the state of Maharashtra have reduced and as per reports, the COVID positivity rate currently stands at 0.15. While this is reassuring, experts have stated that there are seven districts in Maharashtra where the same positivity rate is double or triple to that of the state, and hence, the government has asked the local civic bodies to ensure the rules are strictly followed in this district.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday, June 24, 2021, interacted with the district collectors of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Hingoli districts via video conferencing. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope was also present on the occasion. Understanding the data and the seriousness, CM said that the case might increase once again if the citizens are allowed to move around the city without following the rules as directed by the state government. Moreover, crowding needs to be avoided as the infection may spread further leading to a worse situation.

Officials at the municipal corporations were asked to study the infection rates in the respective cities and districts and to not ease the transaction in a hurry. CM warned that the authorities need to be careful regarding the same.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte said that the situation in these seven districts of Maharashtra could be a matter of concern. Of these, three districts are in Konkan, three in Western Maharashtra and one in Marathwada. Emphasis will be placed on testing, tracing and vaccinating a large number of citizens here and all these districts will also be provided with the necessary facilities to curb the spread. "Everyone should pay attention to increase the testing and implement containment measures strictly in the slums," he mentioned.

A few District Collectors also informed about the measures being taken as instructed and also requested to provide mobile laboratories which will help the officials further.
