Sputnik V makes debut in Mumbai; 667 people inoculated in 2 days

According to the BMC, previously 45 private hospitals were administering shots, but now the number has come down to 37. This in turn brought down the number of inoculations from 70,000 to 50,000.

Russia’s Sputnik V, which is 93 per cent effective on coronavirus, has made its debut in Mumbai this week in private hospitals.

In the last two days, 667 beneficiaries have received their first dose of Sputnik V as a part of a pilot project at Ashirwad Heart Hospital in Ghatkopar (E). However, no side effects have been reported so far.

Employees of Ashok Silk Mills were given the Sputnik V jab today. The vaccine was procured and the team of doctors and paramedical staff were there at their premises in Ghatkopar to administer the doses, Dr Bhaskar Shah, cardiologist and owner of Aashirwad Hospital was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Earlier, the Centre capped the price for the administration of Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V in private hospitals based on the prices currently declared by vaccine manufacturers.

As per the data received by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Wednesday, June 9, 50,807 people were vaccinated in Mumbai. Out of these, 38,635 inoculations were done in private hospitals. A total of 35,200 people in the age group of 18 to 44 have been vaccinated, bringing the total number to 6,20,017.

After three days of allowing walk-ins at various centres, the civic centres will now vaccinate people through scheduled appointments from today, June 10.
