Coronavirus Pandemic: 572 patients have recovered in state so far

On April 20, Maharashtra recorded 466 new cases of coronavirus, taking the tally of the total number of cases to 4,666. The state has recorded 232 deaths as of April 21, 7:00 pm. The situation in the state is undoubtedly dire but State Health Minister Rajesh Tope brought some hopeful news. Tope said that 572 patients had been discharged as they recovered from the virus.

81 per cent of patients are asymptomatic

As per the State Health Department, 76,092 tests have been conducted and out of these, 71,611 are negative reports. Currently, the health department is analyzing 2,336 patients. 1,890 patients out of the total patients being analysed were found asymptomatic, which is nearly 81 per cent of the cases. Whereas, 393 patients (17 per cent) showed symptoms of COVID-19 and 53 patients (2 per cent) have been shifted to ICUs.

232 deaths so far

So far, 93,655 people have been home-quarantined in Maharashtra whereas 6,879 people have been institutionally quarantined. The health department data further revealed that on Monday, the state recorded nine COVID-19 deaths. Seven of them were Mumbai and two were from Malegaon. Among the deceased, six were male whereas three were female patients.

Five of them belonged to the 60+ age category, one of them was under the 40-60 age group and one patient was from the below 40 age group. However, there is no information available regarding the two deaths in Malegaon. Among the seven deaths, five suffered from either diabetes or high blood pressure or heart disease.

Close to 24 lakh people in Maharashtra have been surveyed

Under the guidance of the Central Government, the state had surveyed areas where a cluster of COVID-19 cases was found. These areas were declared containment zones and necessary steps were taken as per the guidelines. By Monday, 6,351 teams had surveyed 23.97 lakh people.
