The state government of Maharashtra has now made Russian vaccine Sputnik V available in Pune. As per reports, approximately 600 doses will be administered here in the first phase, and a single dose of this vaccine will cost INR 1,142 in private hospitals. Officials, in May 2021, had informed that the vaccine would be available in the state from second week of June.

Developed by Gamaleya Institute in Russia, Sputnik V is being distributed in India by Dr. Reddy's labs which based out of Hyderabad.

Information shared by the officials states that the vaccine will be given to Pune residents from Monday, June 28, 2021. One will have to register for the same on CoWin App. The first dose of Sputnik V vaccine was given to 36-year-old Shailesh Puntambekar at Galaxy Hospital. As per the guidelines, an individual administered with Sputnik V will have to wait for 21 days before getting the second jab. With this being available in India, citizens will have three options to choose for vaccination. Data released by the research team mentioned the efficacy of Sputnik V to be 92 per cent against the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Sputnik V made its debut in Mumbai where 667 people were inoculated in 2 days. BMC reports stated that over 37 hospitals were administering this vaccine, and the number of inoculations, in the first few days, dropped from 70,000 to 50,000.
