On Tuesday, January 11, Dharavi saw a sharp decline in COVID-19 cases, when it reported 51 new infections, reports stated. News agency ANI, quoted Kiran Dighavkar, G North ward’s Assistant Municipal Commissioner, elaborating on how a few days ago, the area was reporting more than 100 infections in a day.
Dighavkar added that since the testing protocol has been altered under the ICMR guidelines, focus sample testing is being undertaken.
Moreover, member of the Maharashtra's COVID-19 task force Dr Shashank Joshi, elaborated on how Mumbai is at the peak of the third wave of coronavirus presently. Joshi was of the opinion that daily changes in numbers shouldn't matter as much as the weekly numbers, stated accounts.
On the other hand, state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray was reported to have stated that oxygen requirement in the state has risen to 400MT and if it reaches 700MT, stricter restrictions will come into force.
Additionally, some accounts also cite the expectation of a rise in hospitalization numbers of COVID-19 patients at the end of January or the first week of February, by the state health department.
Similarly, state health minister, Rajesh Tope was also reported to have mentioned that the restriction brought in force by the authorities are likely to stay in force till mid-February, considering the surge in cases in the state.
