Even though Mumbai was plateauing the number of cases of coronavirus, after the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations along with relaxations in the lockdown, the cases have been on a rise again.

Moreover, the western suburbs are the most affected, especially areas like Borivali, Kandivali, Bandra West, Dahisar, Mulund and Goregaon as they are densely populated.

On Tuesday, September 8, Mumbai clocked 1,346 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the city to 1,58,756. Moreover, 42 people succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 7,939.

According to the BMC, Mumbai's COVID-19 recovery rate is 79 per cent, as the city had 24,556 active cases as on Tuesday. The civic body further added that the city's average growth rate for the coronavirus cases increased to 1.07 per cent, while the average doubling rate came down to 65 days.

Furthermore, the BMC had stated that K-West (Andheri West), P-North (Malad West), R-Central (Borivali) and R-South (Kandivali) wards have recorded more than 8,000 cases last week till September 5 while K-East (Andheri East) saw the highest number of 9,187 cases of coronavirus.

In view of the situation, the Maharashtra government had earlier announced that it is to conduct statewide door-to-door campaign from September 15. On Friday, September 4, the state government, spearheaded by Uddhav Thackeray launched the scheme “My Family, My Responsibility” in order to cover 2.25 crore families in Maharashtra.
