With the free booster dose drive for all adults slated to commence on Friday, July 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic interaction with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday, July 14 and asked him to see to it that maximum coverage of COVID-19 precautionary dose is ensured, reports stated.

The Centre had recently proclaimed a 75-day initiative to give booster shots to all adults on the occasion of the 75th Independence year. Until now, the 18-59 age group were not eligible for free shots.

Shinde was quoted in accounts elaborating on how Modi spoke to him over the phone and asked him to ensure maximum coverage. Thus they will ensure that the complete health machinery is pushed into the work. This he believes will help in keeping the coronavirus positivity rate under check.

According to reports, the state and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said those who have completed six months after their second dose can walk in for free shots and the public centres. Further, during the recently held cabinet meeting, the issue of augmenting booster coverage was taken up. Herein Shinde asked the administration to conduct large-scale public awareness and bring in NGOs as well as health activists to ensure that all those eligible take the dose.

Shinde reportedly added that they want to reach out to the last person and keep them safe. On the other hand, vaccination officials are anticipating a higher footfall now.

Similarly, in Mumbai, the civic body has proclaimed that free booster doses will be accessible at 104 civic and government hospitals. Over the last week, the daily average vaccination in Maharashtra fell to 50,000 because of a fall in demand and heavy rainfall
