Swine Flu or H1N1 influenza primarily spreads during the monsoon. The first casualty during this monsoon season has been reported at KEM Hospital in Parel. The 26-year-old resident from Govandi was admitted on July 8 after she suffered from breathlessness and acute respiratory problems and succumbed to the complications on Saturday, July 13.

In 2019, Swine Flu has claimed four lives in Mumbai till date. The symptoms of swine flu which is an airborne disease include fever, cough, sore throat, chills, weakness and body aches. Children, pregnant women and senior citizens are always at a risk from severe infection.

Following are the measures to prevent H1N1: 

1. Don't allow water to stagnate and use mosquito repellent to prevent yourself from mosquito bites. 

2. Avoid swimming, walking or swallowing dirty water as it may contain animal urine. 

3. If you experience symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, chills, weakness and body aches, consult with your doctor immediately. 

4. Don't just completely rely on face masks and don't reuse them.
