Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday, December 29, announced that the state government is planning to administer vaccines to children between 15-18 years of age.
While addressing the media, Tope mentioned the need to focus on the vaccination amid a rise in the Omicron and COVID-19 cases, enforcing limitations to contain the spread of the infection.
“We need to focus on the COVID-19 vaccination. Therefore, we are planning to administer vaccines to 15-18 years old children in schools,” Tope was quoted as saying by ANI.
Meanwhile, a day earlier, on December 28, which was the last of the legislative assembly session, the minister told that the COVID-19 cases in the state are likely to see a sharp increase in January and February 2022.
The number of new coronavirus cases recorded on the same day in the state was alarming 2,172 fresh infections. Earlier, on an average the state had witnessed an average of 600 to 700 cases daily, Tope exclaimed.
Meanwhile, he refrained from indicating that further restrictions would be imposed in Maharashtra, but cautioned that the guidelines issued cannot be compromised. Tope also urged the citizens to take precautionary measures and follow all COVID-related protocols.
