Mumbai has seen some positive results in curbing the COVID-19 growth rate thanks to dedicated task forces set up by the State and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) consisting of doctors and other experts.

Keeping this success in mind, the State Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh has said that the same model will be followed in other districts of Maharashtra that are reporting a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Deshmukh said that these task forces will be established across the state after directives were given by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, adding that task forces will consist of experts, doctors, as well as senior officials in the district.

“The task force will coordinate with different authorities working to control the spread of novel coronavirus and also supervise the treatments used to cure patients,” Deshmukh added.

In June, the CM Uddhav Thackeray had expressed interest in replicating the Mumbai model across the state during a meeting with the Commissioners and Collectors from across Maharashtra.

The State has also launched other initiatives like Project Platina, aimed at expediting convalescent plasma therapy and its research, which has shown some generous results so far. June proved to be a tough month for Mumbai as several areas were sealed off as containment zones.

The State announced a lockdown extension until July 31, which is on top of the individual lockdowns already in place across several parts of Mumbai including Panvel as well as Navi Mumbai.
