For the first time, the state government of Maharashtra has taken an ambitious decision to providing 100 out of MHADA's 188 available rooms or galas to the Tata Memorial Hospital. This decision was taken from a humanitarian point of view and will help in accommodating the relatives and caregivers of cancer patients.

The decision was announced by State Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad at a press conference which was held at the official residence. This was jointly conducted by the Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authorit (MHADA) and Tata Memorial Hospital, whereby he confirmed that 100 rooms or galas have been handed over to the Tata Memorial Hospital.

Besides the above-mentioned officials, MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Anil Diggikar, Mumbai Board Chief Officer Yogesh Mhase, Director of Tata Memorial Hospital Dr. Shailesh Shrikhande and others were also present on the occasion

Mumbai's Tata Memorial Hospital is known for the treatment of cancer patients, where patients come not only from Maharashtra but also from all over India for their treatment. They are often accompanied by relatives and caregivers, however, they do not have the means to stay there or cannot afford a place to live, owing to which, they often have to sleep and survive for a few days, on the streets or side-walks.

To avoid this inconvenience, the state government has set up Parel SewriDivision at the Mahadev Palav Marg on Dr. BA Road in Mumbai's Curry Road locality. Acting upon the decision, the Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board has received a total of 188 plots from the property redevelopment scheme known as Haji Kasam Chawl.

Futhermore, a total of 100 rooms of 300 square feet area have been made available to Tata Memorial Hospital, said Jitendra Awhad. The entire responsibility for the maintenance and the checks has been given to the hospital management and an agreement will be signed soon between the entities. Remaining procedure will be conducted during the handed over to the Tata Memorial Hospital soon, he added.
