The coronavirus’ new variant, Delta Plus, could stoke a third wave of coronavirus in Maharashtra, the state health department had warned a few day ago. 

Moreover, experts have also suggested that the children and teenagers are likely to get more affected by the third wave.  Therefore, the Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra Government to spread its information campaign on the prevention of coronavirus among children. 

The second wave is flattening and considering the experience, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed health agencies to maintain adequate stock of medicines and equipment such as beds and oxygen available in the state with a focus on rural areas. By August-September, the country will get 42 crore vaccines and that should accelerate our vaccination drive, he added.

Accordingly, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already started prepping up for the possible third wave, which is likely to hit by September.

BMC is preparing for the worst-case scenario, and ramping up its infrastructure urgently, stocking up medicines needed for critical care, and ramping up its oxygen production, and supply network.

New Covid Care Centers

For the third wave, nearly 10,000 beds have been set up in Mumbai. The Covid Care Center at Malad in Mumbai will start in the next eight days. The Center will have at least 2,170 beds, informed Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani.

70% of the beds are oxygenated

The civic body is in the process of setting up 16 oxygen plants across thAdditional jumbo facilities are being set up at Malad, Kanjurmarg, Sion, and Mahalaxmi city. However, about 70 per cent of the beds in the new Covid Center will be oxygenated. Besides, it will also have some special paediatric wards.

Special ward for children

The BMC had assured that they will provide special training, guidance to the paediatricians across the city. All the new Covid Care Centres will have a separate ward for kids and teenagers, which will comprise a total of 7,000 beds. In addition, facilities will be available for the parents to stay with the child, said Suresh Kakani.
