With an aim to offer more facilities and treatment centres in Navi Mumbai, the state government of Maharashtra has decided to set up a special coronavirus (COVID-19) hospital at the CIDCO Center in Vashi. This hospital will have a total of 1,182 beds and was centre opened on Thursday, June 11, 2020.

This specially designed coronavirus hospital was inaugurated by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation in presence of Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Guardian Minister, Eknath Shinde. Besides them, the occasion was also attended by  MLA Mandar Mhatre, MP Rajan Vichare and Municipal Commissioner Annasaheb Misal. 

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation had received instructions from Rajesh Tope to set up a 50-bed Intensive Care Unit Hospital in Vashi and the government has also promised 20 ventilators, which would be used to treat COVID-19 patients. 

The number of coronavirus patients across the state of Maharashtra has seen an increase over the last few days with the current count being over 97,000. As of June 11, 2020, Navi Mumbai had a total of 4126 cases and observing this increase, the Guardian Minister had asked for the construction of this Hospital. 

This COVID-19 treatment centre will also have oxygen beds, radiation testing, dialysis, a pathology laboratory, and other facilities which will be used to treat critically ill coronavirus patients. Besides this, the centre will also have a team of 60 doctors, 250 nurses and 350 other staff members. 

Though the state government had announced the 'Mission Begin Again' initiative with certain relaxations in the lockdown, officials have also kept the state on alert to ensure that the cases in the state are contained.

On Thursday, June 11th, Maharashtra witnessed the highest single-day jump in coronavirus cases with 3,607 new cases. The tally in Mumbai has crossed 54,000, and Thane reported more than 6,000 cases. On the other hand, the total number of cases in India on Thursday reached 10,956 taking the tally 2,97,535 and with this India beats the UK and becomes the fourth country to be affected the most due to coronavirus outbreak.
