In recent developments, Nitin Gadkari, BJP leader from Maharashtra and Union Minister, tested positive for the coronavirus. Along with Gadkari, Abu Asim Azmi from the Samajwadi Party has also tested positive for COVID-19.

Gadkari further took to Twitter to inform that he has isolated himself, urging those who have come in contact with him to undergo tests. Gadkari is the latest Union minister to have tested positive for the infection. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also contracted the virus, recovered recently and was discharged from AIIMS Delhi.

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways had earlier attended the first day of the monsoon session and had made a brief appearance in the Parliament.

Moreover, approximately 30 MPs and over 50 employees of the secretariats had tested positive for the coronavirus earlier. The monsoon session of Parliament is being held in two shifts, the Rajya Sabha in the morning and the Lok Sabha in the second half of the day.

The Legislature Secretariat has put in place an array of measures for the two-day session. Inside the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council, germicidal ultraviolet machines and ozone generators have been installed to maintain a sterile environment. Moreover, a special disinfectant coating is being carried out on the furniture and other equipment in a bid to contain the spread of the contagious disease.
