Officials across several departments in the state have been taking strict measures to control the spread of coronavirus, and the local administrations have taken steps to ensure safety for the public. With increasing cases, commuters have raised concerns about the infection, and in order to ease their worries, a new concept of 'COVID Ready Taxi'  has been implemented with the joint efforts of Wadala RTO and United Way Mumbai.

Under this initiative, 150 black and yellow taxis in Mumbai will be made 'covid ready', thereby offering safety for both taxi drivers and passengers. As per reports, a three-step approach is being implemented, whereby the officials have focused on complete disinfection, isolation screen setup, as well as developing a COVID readiness kit for this project. Keeping the coronavirus infection in mind, safety precautions have been advised across all areas, especially in the busiest areas of the city.

The United Way Mumbai NGO has taken the initiative to implement this and the proposed readiness kit includes a reusable 6-layer face mask, disinfectant spray, a 1.5-litre hand pump spray bottle, a five-litre hand sanitizer can, a microfiber cloth for taxi cleaning and 10 strips of paper soap for washing hands. Taxi drivers will also be trained about coronavirus prevention measures, which will be based under the 10 rules of road safety.

In the phase of the concept, the teams are intending to get 150 taxis ready, and all these taxi drivers will be given special training.
