On Tuesday, March 29, Maharashtra Environment and Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray while interacting with the media about the Nanar refinery project stated that they believe in having a dialogue with the locals prior to commencing any big infrastructure projects.
He added that they are developing airports and coastal highways in their region, with the focus on policies pertaining to augmenting tourism in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri. Thackeray further elaborated on how conversations are transpiring from both sides for the refinery project.

The state minister elaborated that the project will not occur in Nanar since he believes that nobody protests if there are good projects. He remarked that the project will be given the go-ahead only once the locals are taken into confidence.
According to accounts, the proposed INR 3 lakh crore oil refinery project ran into opposition, causing it to become stalled. Moreover, the Shiv Sena had also taken a stand against the project. Furthermore, in March 2021, the state CM Uddhav Thackeray had proclaimed that the project would move out of Nanar.
Based on narratives, the shelving of the project was a condition that the Shiv Sena had set aside as part of its pre-poll alliance with the BJP in the led up to the 2019 elections. The previous government had also de-notified the land reserved for the refinery.
