According to reports, the work for the proposed memorial of Balasaheb Thackeray will begin today. Moreover, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will lay the foundation stone of the memorial through a video conference on Wednesday, March 31.

The proposed memorial will come up at the heritage Mumbai Mayor's Bungalow near Shivaji Park in Dadar. Sources report that CM Thackeray will greet the full-length statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 11 am. After that, a meeting of Maharashtra Airport Development Company has been organized at 3.30 pm.

After this, Bhoomi Pujan of Balasaheb Thackeray's memorial will be held at 5 pm. The ceremony will be held at the old Mayor's Bungalow in Shivaji Park, Dadar. Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai further informed that the program will be telecasted live and will be held in the presence of certain dignitaries. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat will be present at the event.

The Maharashtra Cabinet had earlier approved INR 400 crores for the conversion of the Mayor’s bungalow at Shivaji Park into the Balasaheb Thackeray Memorial, honouring the late Shiv Sena founder.

The original proposal sent by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to the MCZMA said that the upcoming memorial complex will be spread across 1,19,130 sq feet of area. The civic body has gone through the entire construction plan in adherence to the 1967 Development Control Regulations for the region under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and Development Control Promotion and Regulations - 2034 for the portions of the project that are non-CRZ.
