While the COVID-19 growth rate and the case fatality rate seem to be declining, the state has to be prepared to face another wave, similar to what is being witnessed in Europe, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, while interacting with all the Divisional Commissioners and Collectors of the State through video conferencing.

He said that the next 15 days after Diwali will be crucial and keeping the same in mind, the civic bodies will have to spread awareness and ensure people are careful and safe. While the state is resuming activities under the unlock guidelines, COVID-19 infection still continues. With movement being allowed across the state, officials have noted that the infection that was initially spreading in the city, has now spread across districts, even in the rural areas

Moreover, the weather is changing and several areas in Maharashtra are experiencing cold. Hence, citizens have to be aware of COVID and other diseases which are known to spread during this period. Patients with heart disease, pneumonia, asthma, flu and other illnesses should be careful, and one should be aware of the difference between flu and COVID-19 infection, added the CM.

Offices and services are resuming operations and several places in the city are opening slowly, which has led to an increase in crowds. This has been observed especially in government offices, and it has become necessary for the state to reduce the same and consider implementing some initiatives. Officials have been asked to work on this. Meanwhile, civic bodies have been directed to check and test people who have come in contact with bus drivers, public servants, and others who are carriers of COVID.

Keeping this in mind and to spread awareness, the department is preparing a Health Map of Maharashtra as a part of the campaign. CM said that at this point it is necessary to stay in touch with the citizens and constantly interrogate them about their health. Therefore, even if the state faces another wave of COVID infection, one can avoid a big disaster by following the basic protocols.

Besides this, the local administrations have been asked not to remove the facilities currently set up for COVID-19, be it hospitals or COVID care centres. He has asked the teams to prepare for the time ahead as there is some time in hand. Officials have been told to complete the repair work, training, checking the systems and finish the maintenance work, as it could be helpful in the near future.
