The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam had criticised the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government for allowing liquor shops to reopen in Maharashtra but not temples.

Besides, last week, the BJP leader had also warned that if the government does not take any decision to open the temple before Tuesday, August 17, he will go to Siddhi Vinayak temple for darshan.

Accordingly, taking it to Twitter, Kadam, earlier this morning, wrote “Today I will go for Siddhivinayak temple darshan. First, at 10.45 am, I will meet Dadar Police officers. After that, at 11, I will go to the temple taking coconut, necklace made of flowers and prasad.”

He further mentioned: “If beer bars can be opened with the COVID-19 rules and protocols. Why the Thackeray government has objection to opening temples and religious places with the same rules? We will follow all the rules made by the ruling government, but we will not accept their strong Hindu opposition.”

A few hours later, in another tweet, he said that the Maharashtra government had sent the police to his house to arrest and also stop him from going to the temple.

On August 12, Kadam took a dig at the state government and questioned the rationale of not allowing the people to enter religious places at a juncture when their normal life has resumed with a significant dip in COVID-19 cases.

While talking to the media, BJP spokesperson Ram Kadam said, "When the state government can give conditional approval to open liquor shops, bars, and restaurants, why can't temples be opened.”

He also condemned the MVA government for prioritizing the sale of liquor over religion.
