Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative assembly, Devendra Fadnavis criticised Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for not fulfilling his promise to provide sufficient relief to farmers who were affected due to untimely rains.

On the second day of the winter session of Maharashtra legislature, Fadnavis told reporters that CM Thackeray had announced ₹25,000 per hectare compensation will be provided to the affected farmers but the government only allotted ₹750 crores.

...however, when the supplementary demands came, they allotted only ₹750 crores. If they have to give ₹25,000 per hectare, they should have allotted ₹23,000 crores,” said Devendra Fadnavis.

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis further alleged that the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has “betrayed” the farmers.

Fadnavis stated that the BJP raised the issue in the assembly on Tuesday. As the issue of farmers’ woes was raised in the Maharashtra assembly, it led to a huge tussle between BJP and Shiv Sena MLAs.

Earlier, the BJP MLAs had carried placards of an article published in ‘Saamana’ demanding funds for farmers affected due to untimely rains. The article in ‘Saamana’ was published before Uddhav Thackeray took oath as CM.
