Shiv Sena on Wednesday attacked its former ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the ongoing unrest in the country against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

In its editorial published in ‘Saamana’, Shiv Sena lashed out at the central government over its handling of protests against the CAA highlighting the unrest across the country.

The whole country is in turmoil over the Citizenship Amendment Act and the matter has slipped from hands of the centre,” the editorial read.

Shiv Sena further stated that the country’s “North-eastern region is up in flames” amid the ongoing protests against CAA while other states have joined the same as well. “The situation in Delhi is even worse,” said the editorial.

Reiterating its stand on the police crackdown on students in Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI), Shiv Sena compared the incident to Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The regional party stated that the attack on students of Jamia Milia Islamia university was “inhuman and unlawful”.

The police aimed their guns at students of Jamia Milia Islamia who were protesting against the (citizenship) Act. They fired bullets. When you have to aim guns at your own students, one should understand that the matter has gone out of your hands. The British did nothing different in Jallianwala Bagh massacre,” said Shiv Sena in its editorial.

Reacting to the debates around Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Shiv Sena in its editorial attacked its former ally saying that BJP didn’t provide ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Savarkar despite being in power in the centre.
