Maharashtra's two-day winter session of the legislative assembly began on Monday, December 14, and on the first day of the session, the opposition (BJP) tried to question Thackeray government's decision over meetings and several other issues. Former CM, Devendra Fadnavis also slammed the government for holding a short assembly this year. Further, JP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar expressed his concerns aggressively stating that if coronavirus doesn't bother the local train services, how does it bother if meetings are held.

Several concerns were raised and expressed against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Sudhir Mungantiwar has drawn attention to this issue by tweeting a video of his speech in the Assembly.

Leaders from the BJP have complained that the duration of the winter session was short and hence inadequate, to which Assembly Speaker Nana Patole agreed. He further directed the officials to draft proper guidelines for the next budget session, thereby making sure the same is not truncated, as the short session is 'not good for democracy.'

A total of six ordinances and four bills were tabled on Monday, to which BJP leaders have reacted and stated that the same cannot be discussed in the stringent time frame.

Reports state that the budget sessions in Maharashtra are scheduled for six weeks in February-March every year, however, the sessions, this and previously held monsoon session in September were planned for two days keeping the coronavirus pandemic in mind.

Adding more, Mungantiwar stated that there was no need for so many bills to be tabled as no comprehensive discussions will be held and the house would not run for 10 days.

MVA government tabled six ordinances and four bills which also included the Shakti bill proposed with an aim to curb violence against women and children. Besides this, reports state that Deputy CM Ajit Pawar tabled the supplementary demands worth INR 21,992 crores and the discussions for the same will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
