On February 18, Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena declared their alliance while addressing the media. The two parties will now contest Lok Sabha as well as Vidhan Sabha elections in an alliance. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement during a press conference at Worli.

Accordingly, the alliance has been formed on the condition that out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena will contest for 23 seats whereas BJP will contest for 25 seats. On the other hand, both the parties will contest for Vidhan Sabha as per 50-50 formula.

Earlier, BJP President Amit Shah had reportedly called Uddhav Thackeray on February 11, Monday to discuss the seat-sharing. The reports further added that while Shah wanted to share the seats for only the Lok Sabha elections, Thackeray proposed the 1995 formula for seat-sharing, for the Assembly elections as well.

The announcement comes after BJP President Amit Shah visited Uddhav Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai on February 18.

Interestingly, Fadnavis mentioned that both the parties have agreed on the topic to build the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Alongside, he also added that Shiv Sena brought up the topic to deal with farmers' loans.
