The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to corner the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over the recent rise in the number of coronavirus crisis across Maharashtra.

BJP spokesperson Amit Malaviya attacked the Uddhav Thackeray government for its handling of COVID-19 crisis saying that the hike in the number of cases suggests a worrying trend in Maharashtra.

“Covid situation in Maharashtra doesn't look good at all. All accounts suggest a worrying trend. Pune is witnessing a sharp rise in cases, so is Mumbai. After Amitabh Bachchan, now members in Anupam Kher's family have also tested positive. A clueless Maharashtra admin looks on…(sic),” Malaviya tweeted.

Maharashtra remains on the worst-hit states in India due to the coronavirus pandemic with 2,54,427 COVID-19 cases. On Sunday, nearly 7,827 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in the state along with 173 deaths. The fatality rate remain at 4.04 per cent in Maharashtra.

In Mumbai alone, the number of cases has increased to 92,988 while the death toll in the financial capital has touched 5,288.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis demanded effective containment of the COVID-19 outbreak in Mumbai suggesting that the government should ramp up testing by four times.

Fadnavis alleged that the government’s decision to limit COVID-19 testing to 5,000 to 5,500 is responsible for the spread of the coronavirus in Mumbai. The number of deaths in Maharashtra which is 10,000 accounts for 45 per cent of total fatalities in the country.

The BJP has attacked the Maharashtra government on several occasions expressing displeasure over the handling of COVID-19 situation. Earlier, the saffron party launched "Maharashtra Bachao Andolan" (Save Maharashtra protest) to highlight the failure of Uddhav Thackeray government.
