According to reports, there is a shortage of Remedesivir injections in Maharashtra, which are effective against coronavirus infections, causing great inconvenience to the patients. Hence, the state government decided to ban the retail sale of Remdesivir injections owing to instances of black marketing, said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that the Maharashtra government is not connecting with private companies producing Remdesivir.

The Leader of Opposition in the Council Pravin Darekar mentioned that he met officials of Group Pharma Pvt. Ltd. in Daman on Monday, April 12, which manufactures the medicine, and it was ready to provide 50,000 injections in Maharashtra.

Darekar also stated that the government and its officials are not taking the initiative to contact the company. This is irresponsible behaviour.

A few days ago, two persons were arrested after the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police recovered 272 vials of Remdesivir injections from a shop in Andheri. A day before, a similar incident happened where a 22-year-old man was nabbed from Mumbai's Andheri East with 12 vials of Remdesivir.

Earlier, the Crime Branch of Pune City Police has arrested two persons, including a nurse from a private hospital, for allegedly selling Remdesivir injections at a higher price. Police have now formed seven teams to check black marketing and illegal sale of the medicine, which is in high demand due to a spike in coronavirus cases across Maharashtra.

Moreover, the government of India on Sunday, April 11, ordered a prohibition on the export of Remdesivir drug and injection "till the COVID-19 situation in the country improves."
