BMC committees formed, many seniors in race to head them

Mumbai – After receiving cold shoulders from the Shiv Sena president for the mayoral position, Shiv Sena corporators Ashish Chemburkar and Mangesh Satamkar are vying for the position of chairman of the all-important standing committee in the BMC. Both of these corporators along with another senior corporator Ramesh Korgaonkar have been nominated on the standing committee. There will be a race among these three corporators for the coveted post of the standing committee chairman.

Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar announced 25 names as standing committee members after receiving the names from group leaders of different political parties. The Shiv Sena has nominated Yashwant Jadhav, Rajul Patel, Ramesh Korgaonkar, Changez Multani, Ashish Chemburkar, Sanjay Ghadi, Sujata Samant, Samiksha Chakre, Sada Gajanan Parab, Mangesh Satamkar on the standing committee. The BJP’s nominees for this committee include Manoj Kotak, Alka Kerkar, Shailaja Girkar, Rajeshri Shirwadkar, Prabhakar Shinde, Vidyarthi Singh, Abhijit Sawant, Makrand Narvekar, Geeta Gawli and Parag Shah. Congress placed Ravi Raja, Asif Zakeria, Kamaljahan Siddiqui while NCP and Samajwadi Party nominated Rakhi Jadhav and Rais Shaikh on this crucial committee.

3 ex-mayors in improvements committee

The Sena had given the membership of improvement committee to two former mayors last time. This time, Sena has added one more former mayor on this committee. The Sena nominated Shraddha Jadhav, Vishakha Raut and Milind Vaidya, all former mayors, and Kishori Pednekar on improvements committee. The other members of this committee are Ramakant Rahate, Anant Nar, Swapnil Tembawalkar, Snehal More, Chitra Sangle (all from Sena); Ujwala Modak, Prakash Gangadhare, Mahadev Shivgan, Jyoti Alwani, Shivkumar Jha, Sunil Yadav, Sagarsingh Thakur, Yogiraj Dabhalkar, Harish Bhandigre and Jagdish Ojha (all from BJP); Vitthal Lokre, Ashraf Azmi and Javed Juneja (Congress), Jyoti Haroon Khan (NCP) and Abdul Qureshi (SP).

Mhatre, Gudekar in race for education committee chief

Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar announced the members of education committee. Sena had nominated Sheetal Mhatre, Shubhada Gudekar, Sandhya Doshi, Snehal Ambekar, Jitendra Padwal, Chandrawati More, Pradnya Bhutkar, Sumanti Kate, Anjali Naik, Rahul Nare and Sainath Durge on this committee. The BJP nominees in this committee include Asawari Patil, Ram Barot, Sunita Yadav, Trivedi, Potdar, Shrikala Pillai, Anish Makwani and Arti Pugaonkar. The Congress members on this committee include Winnie D’Souza, Rajpati Yadav, Sangita Handore and Suresh Singh. The lone member of the NCP on this is Saeda Khan.

Anil Patankar likely to head BEST committee

Shiv Sena has also nominated six members on the BEST committee. Sena’s senior corporator Anil Patankar is in the race to chair this committee. The BJP has nominated Nana Ambole who defected from Sena to join the BJP. Other members of this committee include Anil Kokil, Suhas Samant, Kusale, Harshal Karkar, Pravin Shinde (Shiv Sena), Atul Shah, Kamlesh Yadav, Murji Patel, Sunil Ganacharya, Sarita Patil (BJP), Ravi Raja and Bhushan Patil (Congress).
