On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court asked the Maratha protestors to stop the violent protests and suicides for Maratha Reservation. The court said that no protest is bigger than anyone’s life and it is not appropriate to protest when the matter is already being heard in the court.
Earlier, Vinod Patil had approached the High Court and asked the court to prepone the hearing to curb the statewide violence and suicide by protestors during the Maratha movement. Accordingly, the court accepted the demand, and the hearing on August 14 was preponed to Tuesday, August 7.
The bench of Justice Ranjeet More and Justice Anuja Prabhudesai led the hearing and expressed their disappointment over the ongoing violence and suicides amongst the youth. The court emphasised that the life of people is important than any protest.
State Backward Classes Commission also presented its stand during the hearing. Till September 5, the work of collecting information will take place and later the commission will present its final report after three months. Accordingly, the State Backward Class Commission will submit the final report to the High Court by November 15," said special public prosecutor Ravi Kadam.
The next hearing has been scheduled for September 10.
