Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are among the 'States of Concern', said the the Central government on Thursday, January 20.

While addressing the media after the meeting, the Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that in terms of active coronavirus cases, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Delhi and Rajasthan are the top ten states.

On the other hand, a day earlier, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said that the daily COVID-19 caseload in the state is decreasing and that number of hospitalisations have also reduced.

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in India, the Central health teams have been sent to these states and the situation was being reviewed, he further mentioned.

As per accounts, Maharashtra has recorded a positivity rate of 22 per cent. In Karnataka, the positivity rate has jumped from 0.5 per cent four weeks ago to 15 per cent. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the positivity rate was up to 20 per cent and 32 per cent respectively. Delhi has recorded 30 per cent positivity rate and Uttar Pradesh has reported a more than six per cent positivity rate.

Rajesh Bhushan, Health Secretary said that a sharp surge is also seen in COVID-19 cases in India. Moreover, Asia is also showing a sharp surge in global contribution from 7.9% to approx 18.4% in 4 weeks.

On Thursday, India recorded 3,17,532 new COVID-19 cases, and 380 deaths as the active caseload stood at 19,24,051. The proportion of fully vaccinated people is 72 per cent, he added.

As many as 11 states or Union Territories have more than 50,000 active cases and 515 districts reporting weekly case positivity of over five per cent, the government said.
