Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Saturday hit out at Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik's over his remarks against former and late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Nirupam called Malik a "chamcha (stooge)" of the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In our country, every governor is a chamcha (stooge) of the government. Satyapal Malik is also a chamcha. Rajiv Gandhi was given clean chit by the courts in connection with the Bofors case. Arun Jaitley was the one who gave him a clean chit," Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said.

Earlier, J&K Governor Satyapal Malik made remarks against Rajiv Gandhi saying that the former PM was not corrupt initially but got involved in the Bofors case after coming in the influence of certain people. In a video, Malik further commented on Rahul Gandhi saying, “if Rajiv Gandhi’s son calls you a thief, you’ll also inform about his legacy.”

Reacting to the remarks, Nirupam said, “Satyapal Malik is being a stooge of Modi and is flattering him in order to save his position. Governors should maintain their dignity.”
