After BJP’s win in Palghar Lok Sabha bypoll, taking a jibe at BJP, Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan said that this is the victory of Sam, Dam, Dand, Bhed and not BJP’s. They have no right to celebrate the same.
Of the four Lok Sabha seats, BJP only achieved one seat in the Lok Sabha by-elections in four constituencies. Speaking at a press conference, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra said that Lok Sabha by-elections disrupted BJP’s illusion.

BJP was defeated by the united opposition in the bypolls carried out in Uttar Pradesh’s Kairana and Maharashtra’s Bhandara-Gondia and also, Congress won the Lok Sabha bypoll in Meghalaya. In Maharashtra, Bhandara-Gondia and Palghar Lok Sabha seat were with BJP earlier. This is a major set back to Modi government, Chavan said.
Speaking on the Congress’ performance in Palghar, Chavan said that “I accept the defeat in Palghar and the bypoll result is shocking for the Congress party.” Former CM further informed that if the secular parties had united together, BJP wouldn’t have won the elections.
BJP campaigned for the Palghar Lok Sabha bypoll without considering the moral, democratic and electoral code of conduct. Chavan asserted that the Congress complaint to the Election Commission (EC) about the same but no action was taken against the BJP. Accusing Shiv Sena of being a hypocrite, Chavan said that BJP in Maharashtra will be defeated with the help of united opposition.
