Amid the ongoing conflict between Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the power-sharing, Congress MP Husain Dalwai has written a letter to party’s interim President Sonia Gandhi to back Shiv Sena to form the government in Maharashtra.

In his letter, Dalwai has suggested Gandhi support Shiv Sena stating that Sena supported Congress during the Presidential elections to elect Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee.

The Shiv Sena supported Congress during the Presidential elections to elect Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee. Today, the time has come for Sena to keep Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power. In 2007 and 2012 Presidential elections, Sena supported Congress candidates Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee,” wrote Husain Dalwai.

Senior Congress leaders from Maharashtra including Balasaheb Thorat and Prithviraj Chavan have already said that they will consider any “concrete” offer from Shiv Sena to form the government in the state.

However, Congress General Secretary Mallikarjun Kharge along with senior leaders including Sushil Kumar Shinde and Sanjay Nirupam have maintained that they won’t do any business with Shiv Sena.

Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar is likely to meet Sonia Gandhi in Delhi to discuss the ongoing conflict in Maharashtra over power-sharing. The NCP supremo may discuss the possibility of an alliance with Shiv Sena to form the government in the state.
