Congress president Rahul Gandhi was welcomed by Congress state president Ashok Chavan, Congress general secretary Mohan Prakash, former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavhan, opposition leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, senior Congress leader Manikrao Thakre, Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam and Gurudas Kamat at the Mumbai airport.
Rahul Gandhi has arrived in the financial capital to attend the hearing in a defamation suit filed by Rajesh Kunte, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) member in Bhiwandi- 50km from Mumbai. In 2014, Kunte had filed the suit, when Gandhi in his speech said: “RSS people fired bullets at Mahatma Gandhi”.
In 2016, Rahul Gandhi decided to face the trial rather than apologising. Police security has been beefed up at the Bhiwandi court.
After the court hearing, Gandhi will be visiting the rally organised by Congress party workers at Goregaon’s Bombay Exhibition Centre Booth. Here, he will be guiding the party workers.
