In the view of the increasing COVID-19 cases, especially in Mumbai and Pune region, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said that the train services will not be started in the state.

While addressing the citizens via social media, Uddhav Thackeray spoke to stranded migrant workers and said that the Maharashtra government will arrive at a solution for those wanting to go home as the talks are ongoing.

Uddhav Thackeray assured the stranded migrants that their issues will be dealt with urgency. “I am talking to the centre and whatever is possible will be done soon. We are also trying to bring back Maharashtra students stuck in Kota,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister further stated the trains will not be started because it would create crowd menace and will lead to a hike in the number of coronavirus cases. States like Maharashtra, UP and Bihar will help each other in this exchange.

“The train services will not start anytime soon. This is for sure. Because we don’t want crowds or else the lockdown will be extended further,” Uddhav Thackeray said during his address while highlighting that there must be no crowds or else the restrictions will be reimposed.

Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday indicated that the lockdown in the red zones including Mumbai and Pune may be extended beyond May 3. A final decision will be taken after May 3, he said.

While addressing the citizens via social media, Uddhav Thackeray informed that the state government was not opening district borders in rural Maharastra but was gradually easing restrictions within districts to allow economic activity to resume. These are the districts with relatively fewer COVID-19 cases or none.

Furthermore, Thackeray informed that there will be no restriction on transportation of the agricultural commodities. The concession is likely to be made to enable crop procurement, distribution and delivery.
