Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharastra Legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis lashed out at Shiv Sena for blaming centre for “hastily” implementing the lockdown in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. Sena, on multiple occasions, has tried to corner the central government.
Last month, during his address on social media, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had said that imposing lockdown suddenly was not right and it can’t be lifted all together as it could be troubling for people of the state.
While speaking in an online press conference earlier, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister said that Shiv Sena should stop blaming the central government alleging that it has done nothing. Fadnavis said that the lockdown in Maharashtra was imposed before the centre announced it nationwide. “So who rushed to implement the lockdown? Blaming centre must stop,” he added.
The Maharashtra government had then announced that the central government was following their footsteps in regard to imposing the lockdown, the senior BJP leader said.
“Those who used to boast earlier seem to have forgotten about it and now blame centre for imposing the lockdown. When Shiv Sena was in power with us, even then it played the role of the opposition. Their criticism has no value,” he said.
Despite being in power, Sena’s opinions have earlier changed at every moment, Fadnavis said while adding that one day Sena criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and on the other day, it praised him.
The opposition leader further said that the coronavirus crisis is getting serious each day, especially in Mumbai. Although the state government has taken over 80 per cent of beds in private hospitals, there are not many beds available for the patients, Fadnavis said.
