According to reports, the last decision taken by the former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's government to rename Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar, Osmanabad as Dharashiv and the Navi Mumbai Airport after veteran PWP leader to DB Patil International Airport will be reviewed.

The newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reportedly apprised the cabinet that state CM Eknath Shinde will review the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting on June 29. It was on June 30 that Shinde and Fadnavis were sworn in.

However, later, Fadnavis clarified that the government has not stayed the renaming decision but will instead take it legally in the next cabinet meeting.

The step is another blow to Thackeray who is claimed to have made the Aurangabad renaming a prestige issue. On the other hand, the Congress and NCP had criticized the renaming. Earlier these parties had kept silent when the government was facing turbulences.

However, a week prior, Sharad Pawar claimed that the decision taken regarding the renaming of the cities was not on the agenda of the MVA government. Pawar was quoted in narratives elaborating on how he came to know about the renaming decision only after it was approved by the cabinet.

He voiced that because it was a three-party government the proposal should have been brought before the MVA before the final decision was taken. The Shiv Sena had been attempting for a considerable time to alter the name of Aurangabad.
