Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar has opposed the lockdown imposition demanding that the same shouldn’t be extended beyond July 31 or else people would die of unemployment and starvation.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray needs to pay attention to fixing the deteriorating economic condition in the state, Ambedkar said while adding that people will survive only if the central and state government come together to tackle the economic crisis.

His remarks came after the Chief Minister said that he was not in favour to completely lift the lockdown. Thackeray was talking to Shiv Sena leader and Executive Editor of ‘Saamana’ Sanjay Raut in an interview.

“The statewide lockdown has been imposed to control the coronavirus outbreak. It was never meant to address the boredom of people. It is not like that once people get fed up the lockdown should be lifted. Who will take responsibility if the lockdown is hastily lifted and people die (due to COVID-19),” Thackeray said.

Reacting to this, Ambedkar cited a report by an Australian scientist which said that the immune system to Indians is strong. He also said that according to John Hopkins University has said that 40 per cent of the population will be infected but it will not spread in India.

Ambedkar further informed said earlier he was also afraid of the coronavirus but the mortality rate today is about 2 per cent only. Gautam Buddha has preached that the death of human being is certain but nature has decided that people will live.

“Therefore, the VBA requests that you should not extend the lockdown and focus on reviving the economy,” he said.
