Five-time BJP Corporator Shailaja Girkar Passes Away
Shailaja Girkar (58), a five-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Kandivali passé away on Sunday evening after suffering from a cardiac arrest.
Girkar had been unwell for a while. She was declared dead at 7:30 pm at Oscar hospital. Wife of senior BJP leader Vijay Girkar, having made her own place in the party, she was quite popular not only among fellow corporators but also in her ward. She was the first corporator to start an all-women gym in her ward.
Girkar was deputy mayor in the municipal corporation in the year 2011 and currently was a member of the civic standing committee of the BMC.
She had been a corporator for the past five terms (1997 onwards). This year, she was elected from ward number 21 (R-central ward) which consists of Charkop.
She was also head of the education committee in the BMC in the past.
