Mahim- As the state government gears up to conduct the bhumi poojan of the Shivaji Memorial on 24 December, local fishermen are upset about the proposed structure.
The harried fisherfolk protested against the memorial on 22 December at Mahim's Machhimar nagar, led by the Mangela community’s president Kalpesh Dandekar. According to the fishermen community, this statue and helipads will hamper their fishing business in the Arabian Sea.
The statue is going to come up on 15.86 sq feet area in Arabian Sea on a plateau which is 3.6 km away from Girgaon chowpatty. In total, Rs. 3600 crore have been spent on this ambitious project. Along with this, two helipads will also be constructed.
