Mumbai Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president Haider Azam has demanded the party to field at least five Muslim candidates for the assembly elections in Maharashtra which are scheduled on October 21.

Azam is a known face of BJP from the Muslim community and has been connected with the party for many years. Azam pointed out that parties including Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) have tried their best to separate Muslims from the BJP.

This is why BJP should give tickets to the Muslim candidates for the assembly elections in Maharashtra.

During the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections earlier, BJP had fielded 15 Muslim candidates. However, no one managed to win in the civic polls. Azam informed that BJP decides candidature on the basis of a few parameters.

...however, we have requested the BJP to field five candidates from the Muslim community for assembly elections in Maharashtra,” said Haider Azam.
