In a scintillating turn of events, former Congress leader and Minister of State for Home, in the earlier Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra, joined BJP on Wednesday. This event occurred in the attendance of state unit chief Chandrakant Patil and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

It was at the state party’s headquarter in Mumbai, that former Mumbai Congress chief of 2018-2012, forged his way into the BJP. In the lead-up to the 2019 state assembly elections, Kripashankar Singh had resigned from Congress. This coupled with the fact that he did not advertise for the party in the said election, led to the brewing of intense speculation that he was looking to join the BJP.

This major development comes at the horizon of BMC elections which are scheduled to be held next year. This move by the BJP has led people to believe that it is part of their strategy to defeat the current ruling Shiv Sena. It is in preparation for the same that the party has also initiated Mission 2022.

Singh, revered as the North Indian party face in Mumbai is known to have a poor track record with him being linked to cases of corruption and allegations of possessing assets that aren’t in tandem with recognized income sources.
