Former Minister of State and senior leader of Farmer Workers Party Meenakshi Patil passed away at the age of 76 after prolonged illness. Her last rites will be held at Pezzari at 2 pm. Meenakshi Patil inherited politics from her father Prabhakar Patil. She started studying politics right from his school life. Before joining politics, she also worked in journalism for some time. Her eloquence was enriched by his great love of reading.


She was elected to the Legislative Assembly three times in 1995, 1999, 2009 from Alibaug Constituency. In Vilasrao Deshmukh's cabinet formed in 1999, she held the post of Minister of State for Ports and Fisheries for some time. She was known as a great orator due to her scholarly speeches, fluent oratorical style.

She had close relations with the leaders of all political parties. She was the elder sister of Shekap General Secretary Jayant Patil and former MLA Subhash Patil. She is survived by son Aswad Patil, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Political, social and educational sectors of Raigad district are mourning her demise.
